LEAGUE OF NATION MANDATES OF THE FORMER OTTOMAN EMPIRE

CUT AND PASTE THIS MATERIAL!!!

Class A mandates

The first group, or Class A mandates, were territories formerly controlled by the Ottoman Empire that were deemed to "... have reached a stage of development where their existence as independent nations can be provisionally recognized subject to the rendering of administrative advice and assistance by a Mandatory until such time as they are able to stand alone. The wishes of these communities must be a principal consideration in the selection of the Mandatory."

The Class A mandates:

• Palestine (United Kingdom), from 25 April 1920 (effective 29 September 1923) – 15 May 1948.[15] [16] [17] In April 1921, Transjordan was incorporated as an autonomous area under the mandate.[18] [19] It eventually became the independent Hashemite Kingdom of Transjordan (later Jordan) on 25 May 1946. Following the termination of
the remainder of the Palestine mandate, most of the territory became part of the State of Israel. Other parts, until 1967, formed the West Bank of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Egyptian-occupied Gaza Strip, and small slivers of territory east and south of the Sea of Galilee held by Syria.
